PowerPlay No Drill 9V Battery Adapter Testimonials

Posted by Andrew Backover on

Since trying to copy Jerry Garcia's tone by buying vintage MXR pedals (It didn't work), I learned that many popular 1970s and 1980s guitar stomp boxes ran on 9V batteries only and couldn't accept a wall power supply.

Sure, the owner of a 1974 MXR Bud Box Script Phase 90 could drill or modify the case to accept 9V power. Then, again, that might damage the pedal and it would surely slash the value of a rare pedal that might be worth $400 to $500. As a result, I was constantly scrambling to find or buy 9V batteries. Inevitably, I would forget to turn a pedal off or leave the patch cables in, draining the battery.

Hoping to find a solution, I came up with a design for the PowerPlay No Drill 9V Vintage Pedal Adapter. Today, I make them for vintage and reissue MXR pedals,  Crybaby and Vox Wahs pedals, and Dunlop Silicon Fuzz Face pedals.

I really appreciate all of the positive feedback from guitar players so far. Below you can read a smattering of reviews. Thanks to all who have purchased one, and look for more more product news to come....

"Great upgrade for my vintage Wah!"

"I was about to drill a hole in the housing of a vintage pedal when I came across this. Perfect solution to this issue everything worked perfectly. The black adds a nice contrast and it looks great. This is a must have for any vintage pedal without a 9v input. Great work, I hope you sell thousands of these."

"Good solution for old wah pedals. Definitely fits old Vox pedals."

"Highly recommended seller & product. I have purchased these for all my vintage MXR pedals. Thank you!"

"Simply amazing! Fits perfectly and eliminates batteries in my pedal. Will absolutely buy again! (I have a few more MXR pedals that it will be perfect for)"

"Great product! Seller was very helpful with figuring out which box my vintage MXR pedal was housed in. Quick shipping and the pricing is fair considering what you would have to do to modify a vintage pedal. Highly recommended!"

"Excellent!!! Perfect fit for my 1980 MXR Distortion +, easy installation, I couldn't be more pleased! Thanks!"

"what a GREAT and innovative solution to the thousands of people out there with older MXR effects pedals that rely on 9-volt batteries. This allows you to use an adapter, and free yourself from having to deal with batteries. This product should be widely advertised/marketed to tap into all the musicians that could make use of this adapter if they were aware that it is on the market. A+"

"Vintage MXR users must have."

"A brilliant idea that should be more widely available. If you’re tired of swapping batteries and removing the input jack every time, this is a great way to power your vintage MXR without ruining it permanently with mods."

"I can now put my ‘79 dyna-comp on my pedal board! Thank you for making such a needed product. Will buy more!"

"The description mentions a Crybaby pedal but it fit perfectly on my Vox v847 from the early 90's. The adapter was excellent quality. No more 9v batteries!"

"The adapter fit my '74 reissue perfectly."

"I am over the Moon about this product. Not only does it fit perfectly, it comes with all the components to get you set up; longer machine screws and a power cable to keep it plugged in without losing power. I reached out several times because I was super happy to not have to replace a 9 volt battery ever again with my Phase 100 Script. Your old MXR pedals need these products. They're SOFA KING GOOD."

"Great products, fit great and work as intended, a must need for every vintage MXR pedal. Highly recommend!"

"...the item has added modern reliability to a vintage piece of gear. Invaluable!"

"Once again, a great product and absolute life saver! My second foray after purchasing, using and loving the King/Vox wah adapter for a few months! Can’t recommend enough!"
